Day 7: What's Up, Jaipur?

By Tisha Jain

Today, we flew from Mumbai to Jaipur, the capital city of the state of Rajasthan. It is also called the Pink City because most places in the city are painted with hues of pink.

We are staying in a palace converted into a hotel for tourists. Staying here makes me feel like royalty already :)

Our first destination for the day was the Amber fort, also called the Amer palace situated on top of the Aravali Mountain range. The palace was beautiful and truly a perfect combination of Indian, Islamic and British architecture. There were beautiful swirls of lotus and sun sculptures, adorned with Persian-style flora and Victorian-style arches.

We all had a fun time clicking photos of the marvellous architecture and walking around and absorbing the ancient fort.

After a quick lunch break, we visited a block printing shop. Jaipur is famous for block printing, and we got to see a shop that sold beautiful fabrics and clothes hand-created using block printing. We even got to try block printing and used 4 different blocks to create a majestic elephant.

We then shopped around in the store for scarves, pants, and bed sheets, and some of us bought intricately designed Indian sarees as keepsakes!

Our tour guide told us we are going to visit the monkey temple tomorrow, and I couldn’t be more excited!
